Timeline
  1. 2005
    Impact of Data Management

Tom Searles (MDMi, founder and CEO) became an early adopter of Granta MI as an enterprise-level solution for materials information management. As a Materials Engineer, Tom played a vital role in the initial design, development, and implementation of Granta MI at Rolls-Royce. It was here that Tom saw the first-hand impact of data management and in the process found a passion for data strategy. Rolls-Royce continues to utilize the Granta MI platform and the tools Tom helped to develop. Over the years, their efforts expanded, and recently Rolls-Royce noted a ~$10m annual saving as a result of Granta MI.

  2. 2010
    Void in Data Management Services

After working alongside companies in aerospace, defense, and commercial industries, Tom Searles (MDMi, founder and CEO) saw a critical need for a US presence and qualified service provider for Granta MI and other database solutions. With years of practical experience developing and deploying mission critical software systems, Tom founded MDMi in 2010. With an established record of creating client-tailored solutions to integrate technology into processes and enabling them to accelerate innovation by fully leveraging data intelligence, MDMi quickly became the preferred services provider of Granta MI, and is now a leading Ansys partner.

  3. 2013
    Database Software to Augment Capabilities

The MDMi hired their first developer in 2013 to meet growing client needs and expand offering to include custom software solutions. MDMi’s developer team continues to grow and has now produced a range of applications that span productivity suites, third-party database integrations, and an array of  data auditing and validation tools. These solutions simplify complex processes to minimize human effort and error, standardize processes, and improve data quality. MDMi software is highly configurable to meet unique Client use cases. 4. 2019
    Milestone: 100+ Clients

In 2019 MDMi’s Client list surpassed 100. MDMi has helped Clients, spanning Fortune 500 to Small Businesses, to develop and implement personalized data strategies and solutions. MDMi’s diverse Client lists spans both industries (e.g., automotive, aerospace, materials, chemical, manu-facturing) and sectors (e.g., industry, government, academia/Universities, national laboratories) as ALL organizations developing, designing, testing, and/or manufacturing materials, systems, and products rely on data to inform decision making and practice.

  5. 2020
    Data Engineering Services

MDMi expanded their team to begin offering Data Engineering Services in 2020. When database implementations become stagnant it is often the result of a lack of resources as time investment is critical and there is often no single point of contact. Here, trusted MDMi experts handle Client data to create a low-effort all-in-one solution. From data loading and auditing, to database guidance and administration, Data Engineering Services help maximize return on investment.

  6. 2021
    Expanded Technology Partnerships

MDMi has began expanding technology partnerships outside of database solutions to also include data analysis. In 2021, MDMi partnered with MIPAR, an image analysis software capable of deep learning, to create a database integration platform that streamlines complex analysis and data storage processes. Increasingly, Client needs extend data storage as organizations are seeking integration capabilities to enable insights from emerging machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. More recently, MDMi has formed additional partnerships with Intellegens and Additive Flow. Combining ML/AI technologies with data management can enable concepts including Integrated Computational Materials Engineering to drastically cut R&D costs and time to market.
